Meet our Team! Introducing…Clara Young! Clara is relatively new to the Skyfall Blue team but she has come in as a social media marketing consultant and has rocked so many of our client portfolios that we hope she sticks around for a long long time. We sat down with Clara Young to ask her a few questions so that you could get to know her a little bit better!
What is your educational background?
Diploma in Business Management and Entrepreneurship at Algonquin College
What were your last two jobs?
I currently work as a Bartender/Server at an Italian restaurant in Ottawa called Vittoria Trattoria, and previous to coming onto the Skyfall Blue team I worked privately for a Real Estate agent in Ottawa, running their social media platforms
What do you love about social media marketing?
I love how diverse it is! There is always something different or new happening on social media. Hashtags can change in a minute and you need to be able to keep up with them. I think it’s a fascinating form of marketing as opposed to the old traditional ways we used to depend on (ie. newspaper, bus stops, tv commercials… etc).
What do you dislike about social media marketing?
I dislike how social media has changed our perspectives as a society on how to be social. In Addition, “Being social” is now about how interactive you are on social media platforms instead of in a real social settings with other individuals. In my personal opinion, social media has changed the way we interact in reality.
What is one thing you know about social media marketing that other people probably don’t know?
It’s not easy!! People believe it is as simple as posting a photo and brushing your hands off, you’re done. But, there are many more steps to it that individuals do not realize. There are so many questions that you need to ask yourself before you post that photo, like:
■ Did you use the correct hashtags for the post? Did I post it at the optimal time?
■ Did you tag similar accounts for them to view the post?
■ How is the post doing? (comments, likes, shares)
■ Is it relevant to your brand?
■ Is it something your audience will be interested in or will they pass over the post without a second glance?
■ How much time did I spend making this post? Was it worth it?
○ In the end, it is about making social media work for YOU as an individual or a small business. Keeping your business and personal accounts separate is imperative.
What is your role at Skyfall Blue?
At Skyfall Blue, I work as a social media and marketing consultant.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I love the variety that comes along with this position. There is always something new and exciting to work on. Each day will be different, sometimes you know what will happen and other times it’s a mystery depending on how the social media platforms are performing.
What is the toughest part of your job?
You can be highly organized and plan for exactly what you want. Also, with social media constantly changing, sometimes you need to stray from your original plan and work on the fly with what you have.
Tell us about the most inspirational client story you have had on the job at Skyfall Blue:
For me, the most satisfaction I get out of doing this job is when it clicks for the client that social media can take their business from a level 1 for example to a level 5. Simple changes can be made to a brand to make it more easily accessible for the public to find and learn more about.
