Every new year, we ask our clients, and our team, to take a long and hard look back at their social media from the previous year and write down successes, gaps and failures. From campaigns that never made a mark to posts that didn’t keep up with the changing face of the brand, your social media marketing needs to be reviewed and reassessed annually. It can be all too easy to get stuck in a social media rut when you’re posting about the same topic on a daily basis. It’s a new year and it’s time to shake things up! Here are eight tried-and-tested tips to give your social media marketing a strategic boost and increase interest in your business:
1. Create and share a new written social media strategy early in the year
Without a social media strategy as an anchor, your social media efforts are like a boat floating in a vast sea of other posts. Clearly define your social media goals, how you’ll achieve them and where you’ll achieve them and why. Determine your target audience and your goals, and check in quarterly to ensure you are reaching them.
2. Put together an annual 2020 social media calendar
Once you’ve created a strategy with goals to work off of, you’ll want to craft a social media calendar to plan out your posts. You can get loads of free templates for this calendar on Google. This type of up-front work and scheduling will ensure you aren’t posting randomly, but tying posts in with relevant campaigns throughout the year and at times where you’ll get the most visibility.
3. Increase your use of images and videos
Analyses of the past year have been proven that posts with images and videos are the most popular type of content for engagement. Whether it’s simply photos of your team hard at work or a video testimonial from someone using your product, make it a priority to capture and share creative images with your audience.
4. Measure and analyze your metrics
If you haven’t already, you’ll need to review and measure your social media periodically to see what’s working and what’s not working. This information will inform your future efforts and hold you accountable to the aforementioned social media strategy.
5. Experiment with social media advertising
Sometimes your social media posts need the added help and visibility of social media ads sharing your relevant content with the right audience. The good news? Social media advertising costs are often negligible and you can reach a large—but targeted—audience based on age, interests, etc. Too scared to do this on your own? 6. Find and interact with a relevant online community
Research where your audience is and make it a point to engage within that community. Can’t find an online community that’s relevant to your industry? This may be a good opportunity to create a community forum for your audience.
7. Watch your competitor’s posts
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? Keep an eye on your competitor’s posts to see what produces the most engagement, and let that inspire relevant posts for your own audience. Moreover, engage with your competitors online in conversation and interesting dialogue.
8. Get real with your audience
The audiences on social media have spoken – they no longer seek the hyper curated and fake
lives and products and stories curated for online sales. They want real, raw and vulnerable
truths from business owners, employees and clients. Is this your year to start blogging about
your company’s path to success? We hope so!
